I was going to write a long, impassioned response here, and then I realized - you guys really don't believe that one can measure a threat based upon the number of people that that threat succeeds in killing. After all, I am sure that you all wouldn't intentionally make yourselves sound like a Karl Rove caricature of Democrats, right? Right? JDG I don't think anyone has claimed that we should not counter terrorists. You should not conflate a criticism of the emotional response to acts of terror with an unrealistic desire to not fight back. Speaking for myself, I think we should step back a bit and rationally assess the actual damage we have taken while continuing to provide for defence. Avoiding rhetoric that confuses countries with religions with terrorists would be helpful. The "Axis Of Evil" speech might have played well to the partisans at home, but it was insulting to many people who might have remained somewhat more sympathetic.
