the people in these mideast countries are being kept in poverty,
despite their fantastic wealth in oil. people are so full of rage and
desperate for work, that they join terrorist organizations. many
become martyrs simply so their families will be fed.

was it really necessary to fire bomb dresden?

I dunno. Was the London Blitz really necessary?
 <snip>

I'm sure you are trying to make some sort of point but I'm unsure what
 it is.

i am not defending terrorism, just trying to understand what drives
people to become jihadists. are they dupes, or is it possible there
are economic and other factors that drive them to be martyrs?

neither am i saying that america is solely to blame for abuse of power.
the current invasion in iraq i blame on bush, however. it has
resulted in an explosion of recruitment for al qaeda.

much has been said about ending war, before and after the message in
isaiah for "beating swords into plowshares". unfortunately, up to
now, the forces behind war are superior to the impact of those who
promote peace.

i am not saying that america is any worse than imperial japan, or
national
socialism. we didn't start WWII, but our imperialistic foreign
policy (in the
context of history) is not a shining example of altuistic world
leadership,
either. certainly there were many grievances against our expansionist
 doctrines and trade policies.
from columbus and possibly sooner, our colonial practices, genocide,
speciescide and slavery is proof that our government was corrupt and
hypocritical from the beginning. not that other countries were any
better. some were and there have been periods in history when chivalry

the standard. religion and feudalism was able to prevent those ideas
from spreading, just like christianity and other religions became
corrupt, even those the ethical message of the sermon on the mount
 promotes peace, love and brotherhood.

i grew up in postwar japan, and have a japanese stepmother who didn't
deserve the deprivation, starvation and being bombed. she did not
choose her government. maybe we should have just blockaded japan.
it was perry, after all, who forced japan to open up to western
culture, to
the detriment of bushido and other ancient traditions.

there is a lot that could have been done to give germany's jews hope,
instead we turned them away, as did many other countries. by rights
they should have been given bavaria for a homeland instead of israel
where
they are still vilified and attacked without end. i just watch
syriana w/george clooney and it reminded me of the formula w/geo. c.
scott.

what i am trying to say, ronn, is that maybe now it is time to set an
example and stop meddling in other countries affairs except to adopt
fair trade policies instead of "free" trade, globalization, and new
world order agendas.
