I'm not sure how you can say that "tournament fees are getting a little out of control". These days most teams have around 12 to 15 players and often a lot more. A 150 tournament fee translates to around 10/15 each, I don't think this is an unreasonable request for anything up to 6/7 hours pitch time, the use of all the facilities available (changing rooms, showers, camping etc) plus a space for a party on the Saturday. What else can you do for a whole weekend that only costs you 15?!
TDs are entitled to make a little money from organising big events, for all the organising and hassle they have to take - especially as there were very few bids for tournaments this year. I think we were in danger of only having 3 Tours at one point. If more bids came in than maybe we could have some sort of price war but until that time I think 150ish represents very good value! It's indoor tournaments that are the rip-off, there are often entry fees of over 120 and for that you get to sit around most of the day and get a total of an hour and a halfs play over the weekend, if you're lucky. To be fair, this is largely due to the fact that hiring whole sports halls for a weekend is very expensive. Si. As I remember it one of the reasons for paying an individual fee was that it would reduced tournament fees by removing the old BUF tax. Having helped run University Outdoor Nationals this year I know how much work is involved, and also that it is quite possible to make a decent profit from a team fee of under 100 per team at a large tournament. I understand that people want to be paid for their work but tournament fees are getting a little out of control. All I ask is that TD's take a look at their profit margin and try to find a balance between making money and giving something to the sport we all love. Did I mention Tour 1? ;-) Jon Good - Le Boeuf Abstract #44 At 18:07 06/05/2004, Giguere Stephen-BLUW31 wrote: >Hi britdisc, > >I've been noting the lack of or slow entry to events this year >and thought I'd share the Flyght Club situation... > >With 4 nearly back to back events it costs Flyght Club > >Tour 2 150 x 1 = 150 >Mixed Tour 2 125 x 2 = 250 >Tour 3 160 x 2 = 320 >Mixed Tour 3 125 x 2 = 250 (Deadline May 14th) > >So with the compressed season and the ever increasing tournament >fees, before we've even played Tour 2 (and collected from the players >who are playing) we're expected to shell out 970 in tournament fees >because we're lucky enough to be a well developed geo team with usually >two active teams. > >This isn't exactly easy but given the club ran some indoor events and >we collected some subs we might just about do it.
