A couple of points further to Lewis' clarifications:
- Contact with the receiver's hand was never disputed - only whether it was
actually a strip or not was initially discussed. So play was going to resume
from the goal line as an uncontested foul, before the discussion about the
disputed possession took over.
- the thrower self-checked the disc before throwing the huck, thus
acknowledging that a stoppage had occurred (there would be no need to
self-check otherwise). The problem is that as per rule 11.6, below, you cannot
self check until the D is ready. Fusion clearly got an unfair advantage by the
D not being ready, and by not waiting until everyone returned to their
positions as per 11.2 and so it was absolutely correct that the disc went back
to the thrower.
- what was most disappointing was the number of Clapham players on the
sideline, including would-be GB captains, who (although clearly not in full
comprehension of the rules) were so keen to get actively involved in the
discussion. and worse still was the fact that they were clearly heard to cast
aspersions about Fire's spirit in general. ironic not only because of their
flawed assessment of the situation, but more so because their call-fests with
Skogs over several years have earned them world-wide notoriety.
11.1. Whenever play stops during a point for a time-out, foul, disputed
possession, violation, safety stoppage or injury stoppage, play is restarted
with a Check.
11.2. All players should return to the positions they held when the event
that caused the stoppage occurred, and remain there until play is restarted,
except in the case of a time-out.
11.6. If the nearest defender is not within reach of the thrower, the thrower
shall, with permission of the closest defender, restart play by touching the
disc to the ground and calling Disc In.

The violation happened because Danny checked the disc without players being
in there original positions (Lars and Keith discussed a potential foul (11.1
disputed possession requires a check) and the video shows they are clearly
miles away from where they should be). Original positions did affect play
because Keith and Lars were in the lane close to the disc affecting Danny's
huck.
So Sam and Dave's discussion on the catch was actually totally immaterial.
Though it looks to me it was a strip / foul to me but thigs are easy in
slo-mo ;)
Congrats to Fusion for the win and the spirit they showed and well done to
Clapham in the final.
