Belatedly, I still think it's a score, because the "Strip foul" is defined as "A defensive foul that causes the receiver or thrower to drop the disc after they have gained possession" - no mention of the disc actually being directly contacted by the defender.
The whole "was it a strip or was it a foul?" question often asked after an uncontested defensive foul/violation causes a dropped disc in the endzone (to determine whether it's a score or whether the disc gets played from the front of the zone), is now redundant - it doesn't matter whether the D contacted specifically the player or the disc - if they caused the drop AFTER the receiver gained possession then it's a score. I guess the question isn't totally redundant, instead it should be rephrased to "was possession gained before the strip?" - assuming everybody knows a strip doesn't necessarily mean any contact with the disc. I agree about the 'stallingone!' often heard though... combined with starting the stall before a pivot foot is established, this can easily take 2 seconds off the stall. A foul results from a breach of the rules where illegal contact has occurred between two or more opposing players. The disc that is in possession of a player is considered part of that player's body. Only the player fouled may claim a foul, by calling "Foul". 16.5.4. A defensive foul that causes the receiver or thrower to drop the disc after they have gained possession is a "Strip" foul. 16.5.4.1. If such a foul occurs and the reception would have otherwise been a goal, and the foul is uncontested, a goal is awarded. 17.3.1. Marking violations include the following: 17.3.1.4. "Fast Count" – the marker: 17.3.1.4.3. starts the stall count before the Offensive player establishes both possession of the disc and a pivot point __________________________________________________ BritDisc mailing list [email protected] http://www.fysh.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/britdisc Staying informed - http://www.ukultimate.com/staying-informed
