Here's the stuff that i've noted has changed. Very little seems to actually be new, quite a bit has been reordered, reworded or clarified.
The only real changes i noticed were: No middling the disc. You can ask for a repull if players are offside or don't hold the line. Live/Dead disc instead of "in play" - Clarifies a few situations. Reckless play and blocking fouls. Some simplification/clarification of the continuation rule. John (ABH) Here are the notes i made on my read through... Putting disc into play changed to status of disc Continuation rule changed to continuation after a call Stoppages and timeouts order switched The championship rules section (the old appendix A) is gone. --------------- Intro - The same ---------------- Section 1 - Spirit 1.3 has extra subsections: 1.3.4. explain their viewpoint clearly and briefly; 1.3.5. allow opponents a reasonable chance to speak; 1.3.6. resolve disputes as quickly as possible; and 1.5.2 simplified wording 1.6.4 is new (old one now .5) ---------------- Section 2 - Playing field (old section 2, variations, removed) 2.2 (old 3.2) subsection about line widths moved to 2.7 2.3 clarification, but the same as old rules. ---------------- Section 3 - Equipment - The same ---------------- Section 4 - Point, Goal and Game A bit of rewording.. nothing new(?) ---------------- Section 5 - Teams 5.3 teams have a captain ---------------- Section 6 - Starting a Game - The same ---------------- Section 7 - The pull - NEW things 7.3 old 8.5 7.4 clarified/updated 7.5 old 8.3 7.6 You can ask for a repull <------NEW 7.8, shifted 7.9 shifted. Added (a "dropped pull") 7.10, .11, .12 shifted 7.13 changed - No "middle" option anymore. <------NEW ---------------- Section 8 - Status of the Disc - NEW things This seems to be a simplification, clarification and update. The wordage is all very different to old putting the disc into play section, but the results seem to be the same, with clearer rules for certain situations. ---------------- Section 9 - Stall count - NEW things 9.1 utterance -> utterances addition of (1) 9.3. The marker may only start a stall count when the disc is live. NEW - clarifies question about stalling off pitch etc old 10.3 and .4 combined to new 9.4 ---------------- Section 10 - The check - The same ---------------- Section 11 - Out-of-Bounds 11.3.1 first crossed-> crossed and added (unless 14.2 is in effect) 11.4 now refers to live not in play 11.7 simplified... ? .3 removed ---------------- Section 12 - Receivers and Positioning - The same ---------------- Section 13 - Turnovers 13.1 All subsections now have a technical term for the type of turnover 13.3 Rewritten/Clarified... slight change? 13.6 Reworded for new live disc section 13.10 New, but not a rule change really. ---------------- Section 14 - Scoring - The same ---------------- Section 15 - Fouls - NEW things 15.1 split up for clarification 15.2. Reckless disregard for the safety of fellow players regardless of whether or when contact occurs is considered dangerous play and is treated as a foul. This rule is not superseded by any other rule. <----------- NEW old.5 is new .3 - removed old .1 old .6 is new .4 - reworded old .2 is new .5 old .3 is new .6, added .6.2 (old .4) 15.7. A player causes a blocking foul by taking a position that a moving opponent will be unable to avoid and contact results. <-------- NEW ---------------- Section 16 - Violations - CHANGES 16.1 altered slightly: necessarily added old 16.1.1 split into two old .2 removed new .2 adds "unless specified otherwise..." The order the subsections are in is different to the old ones... *Marker violations - some rewording *Travels (16.3) - whole bunch of new clarifications etc: 16.3.1 - 16.3.4 new old 17.2.1.3 split in two - 16.3.5.2 and .3 3 contacts rule removed, (was 17.2.1.4) *Picks - 4.1 continuation rule wordage removed ----------------- Section 17 - Continuation after a Call - CHANGES Lot of rewriting/clarification. Worth another look. ----------------- Section 18 - Stoppages Tech stoppage 18.2.1 added "freeze", reworded. ----------------- Section 19 - Time-Outs 19.2. Each team shall have two (2) time-outs per half. <---- NEW 19.3.
