Right, but the build options used and how to change them are not so
obvious.  I'll be glad to offer a suggestion later.

Okay, that works.  But I can't find where the package is actually
named according to architecture--probably in one of the deb helper
progs.

Oops, sorry I missed that chunk--I zeroed in on the deb file offered
here at the top:

  http://sourceforge.net/projects/brlcad/files/BRL-CAD%20for%20Linux/

Maybe that first line that reads:

  Looking for the latest version? Download brlcad_7.20.2-0_i386.deb (57.1 MB)

should read:

  Looking for the latest version? See BRL-CAD Version 7.20.2.

and "BRL-CAD Version 7.20.2" be a link to the directory with the
latest binary releases.
