I'd have made the very same assumption. Maybe there's some new Android setting 
to control that. I'm sure that as long as your phone thinks that it's the 
device then you won't get that access-granting dialog.

Are you side-loading brltty or getting it from Google Play. If you're 
side-loading then we can quickly test a fix for making it stop crashing. 
Updating it on Google Play can take a day or two (or sometimes more). :-(
