I know it's at times a contentious issue, but I have had success with the "drive chilling" technique. I put it in a ziplock bag with pwr/sata cables poking out to try and avoid condensation, and it worked fine. However, my suspicion is that this works better with failing electronic chippery in the drive rather than surface defects. Anyway, worth a go after all else has failed.
