Follow-up Comment #11, bug #67838 (group groff):
Thanks Branden and Dave for your interesting comments.
I'll try to keep it short:
My question regarding the minimum required texinfo version and whether there
would be a possibility to update was more about me only having convenient
access to texinfo 7 (via nixpkgs) and not wanting to deal too much with
backwards compatibility. I'm not aware of any specific changes in texinfo from
version 5 to 7 that would be helpful; that said I'm rather unfamiliar with
texinfo changelog in general.
Looking at the texi source for the texinfo manual I noticed that the @node
declarations omit the prev, next, and up arguments.
Out of curiosity I did the same for groff.texi.in using sed -i
'/@node/s/\(@node[^,]*\).*/\1/' doc/groff.texi.in, fixed some node and menu
inconsistencies (see attached remove-next-prev-up-from-node.patch) and
produced the info, html, and pdf version of the groff manual, which looked not
too different apart from the removed previous nodes when these would be
identical to the up node.
If you'd like to consider the proposed changes for the upcoming 1.24.0 do let
me know what tests and checks you'd like to see performed. Happy to help.
