I'm really surprised by this reasoning. Because the way I see it, all your 
arguments would favor the version pinning. By version pinning you achieve 
exactly what you desire: collect a predefined set of packages that work on all 
possible systems and operating systems, and will also guarantee perfectly 
reproducible builds across all these environments. 

Anyways, I'm not going to press the matter any further :) I changed it to `>=` 
as requested now.
