Tim's email:
http://mail.openjdk.java.net/pipermail/build-dev/2007-December/000654.html

Mentions this:
hotspot\src\os\windows\vm\jvm_windows.h(33) : fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'windows.h': No such file or directory

But windows.h should not be a problem to find, right? Platform SDK should
have one I assume.

I seriously doubt that Hotspot would have any dependence on atlmfc.
I searched and found no include's of any obvious atl files.

My understanding was that it did--there are a few build-dev emails about
missing "atlmfc.h" just a few weeks ago....

But I haven't verified that from looking at the sources yet--been busy with
other things. I'll take a look and see. Can you check with the Hotspot team
if they know of any in the meantime (or, perhaps better yet, can you suggest
which list would be best to forward this email to)?

Does the hotspot sources have a ATL/MFC dependence?

Should we just wait with the attempted port until this (see below)
happens? Or do we want to try and actively remove the dependencies on
ATL/MFC from the Hotspot code?

Unfortunately, no, there is no way to get to ATL and/or MFC without
buying VS Std/Pro/etc. (of course, you can get those through your
MSDN
subscription, etc.)

For the future, though, the plan is to ship both ATL and MFC (x86, I
believe) in VC++ Express at some point.

Can you tell me (or put me in touch with somebody who can) if it’s
possible to get a hold of the ATL and/or MFC headers and libraries
without buying Visual Studio Standard/Professional/Enterprise/etc? I
have a client who’s looking to see if they can use just VC++ Express
to
maintain some code that uses ATL and MFC.
