Sure, I know it can be pretty smoothly managed to do fancy (and shiny)
software forges with all the frills and even do it OSS and self-hosted.

(The cost is being virtually unable to do a single thing without vast
amounts of javascript, which is especially a concern on the type of
hardware busybox is so useful for, lol.

I'd actually prefer github to gitlab for that, since github is a lot
more usable with javascript disabled. But cgit is even better, if you
don't need the features. Incidentally https://sourcehut.org strikes an
excellent balance if you do want some features, but don't want javascript.)
