Hello all, I am SURE I'm about to open a can of worms here, but I want the advice from those I feel most knowledgeable. that being BVARC membership.
I was all ready to buy a new Yaesu FT-991 (the FT-897D replacement) and a friend of mind talked me out of it, at least temporarily. I want to be able to do HF with a decent rig and also be able to Satellite and VHF/UHF SSB and weak signal work. So know I'm wondering if the shack in the box is the best way to go (TS-2000, FT-991, IC-9100, etc.) or to go with two boxes, one for HF up to 6m or 10m (FT-1200 or FTDX-3000) and another box, perhaps a Yaesu FT-847 (supposedly renown for satellite and weak signal work). I'd like advice, suggestions, issue that I might not have thought about, about the best way to spend my money. I've spent the last two months upgrading antennas, now I feel it's my rig (FT-897D) is holding me back, at least HF wise. All thoughts, advice, suggestions, flames and insults are welcome. They are even more welcome of you have owned one or more of the shack in a box type rig, which I define as 80m- 440mhz, all mode. Thanks in advance! 73, Rob, KC5RET
