Commercial radios, can be converted to use in the ham bands. Amateur radios cannot be converted to commercial use. That simple. Anyone working in the commercial and public safety sector should know this. I received an email soon after this was posted, from someone with who knows. Please do not give information to people how to modify radios unless you are SURE its legal. This could put YOUR ham license in trouble. There are people monitoring this board I assure you do not want to be telling about illegal mods. You can by cheaper commercial radios. Yaesu, Kenwood and Icom sell them and maybe even Bofong. Commercial type accepted radios will not allow non-software programming to prevent out of band operation. I know many may have modify their radio for OOB operation, but government agencies need to only use legal radios. Trust me, the FCC does check and if that modified radio puts out a spur or harmonic somewhere else on the PS freq., someone up for a big fine! _____

Randy, are these the same two radios that you had an issue with last year? More specifically, the exact same issue? Also try Ken Mirabella of Powerwerx http://www.powerwerx.com/ http://www.powerwerx.com/ </Flashback> Here is a PDF manual which might be useful if you have not already seen it - https://lggagnon.files.wordpress.com/2012/12/wouxun61.pdf. The manual does not actually tell you how to do the unlock but instead refers you to the help files of the programming software. So, ensure that you have the latest version of Chirp. I've found that I had to use a different model number in the chirp software in order program my wife's Wouxon. A key point that I found on page 17 - "5. take care when frequency unlocking. Save all factory settings first by doing a "Program, Read from Radio, File, Save". If you decide to perform a frequency unlock the new TX range must match the RX range." And as Ron pointed out last time, not all Wouxon are created equal, even if they do share the same model number. You could have the unlockable model. I bought these radios to replace 2ea City of Needville HT transceivers, which uses 461.875 for receive and 466.875 for transmit. Digital coded squelch is 162. Radios as shipped to me came with VHF transmit 144-148, receive 136-174. UHF transmit was 420-450 MHz. Receive is 420-520 MHz. Serial number of the radios are: M03CT7608 AND M03CT7610. I am able to program the radios to any of the frequencies as listed above, but I was told that the transmit frequency would need to be unlocked if I needed to use the 466.875 transmit with DCS162. For programming the radio through the computer, I have both Wouxun and Chirp software programs installed. The only problem I have is unable to get the unlock function to take effect, so the proper transmit frequency can be programmed without getting an "out of band" message. I have sent a prior email to a Wouxun distributor on Ebay, and he fails to give me an answer for the unlocking. However, I have the Wouxun unlock screen that shows up on my computer, and can set band limits but I can't get it to actually unlock the radio. I wonder if someone could shed some light on the subject.. _______________________________________________ BVARC mailing list [email protected] http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org -- Bruce Paige, KK5DO AMSAT Director Contests and Awards ARRL Awards Field Checker (WAS, 5BWAS, VUCC), VE Houston AMSAT Net - Wed 0100z on Echolink - Conference *AMSAT* Also live streaming MP3 at http://www.amsatnet.com Podcast at http://www.amsatnet.com/podcast.xml or iTunes Latest satellite news on the ARRL Audio News http://www.arrl.org AMSAT on Twitter http://www.twitter.com/amsat _______________________________________________ BVARC mailing list [email protected] http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org _______________________________________________ BVARC mailing list [email protected] http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org _______________________________________________ BVARC mailing list [email protected] http://mail.bvarc.org/mailman/listinfo/bvarc_bvarc.org
