To Comcast users. Some Comcast modems have 2 wireless AP. One is for your service & the second is for infinity mobile service to allow outside parties driving by or close by to use your modem to access the service. This will slow your wireless down. You should be able to log into your router & turn this off. You can also turn all wireless off & provide your own AP. Wired connection is always better than a wireless connection. Some neighborhoods have hundreds of AP all competing for the same bandwidth. If you use wireless configure a fixed ip address outside the DHCP range of the router. Other options are as Bruce said use separate services, also many intercity neighborhoods have AT&T fibre service. I have clients in Bellaire & southwest Houston have that service (K5IZO is one) Verizon now has a fixed ( to your home ) 5g internet service.

When you use only one provider, most of your bandwidth goes to data and tv gets what is left. Because the tv is highly compressed the picture always looked terrible with one provider. When I split services I got gorgeous tv and no issues with my data. 73...bruce Sent from my iPhone On Oct 12, 2020, at 5:29 PM, Nizar Mullani via BVARC <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> > wrote: Allen, Welcome to the club! Comcast has had problems recently with data dropouts and delays. I have had issues with my remotes for about three months. have swapped out EVERYTHING at both ends but the problem still persists. So, I am convinced that the quality of the Internet service is the culprit. My CW has been getting corrupted when I use N1MM to send CW to my ranch rig. I can listen in on my home rig on what is being transmitted. However, when Chris, N8AI, connects to it, he has no problems. He can ragchew either with a paddle or a CW engine and no dropouts. About a year ago, Chris, N8AI, was getting into data drops with his Xfinity service. When you run speedtest, the service is in excess of 50 mbps. But, he was still getting problems. One problem was data drops. It was fixed by running a direct cable to the router rather than going with wifi connection. The second problem may have been related to certain settings in the Xfinity routers that channel more speed to streaming video than to standard data use like we need for our rigs. I believe that someone at the top engineering level must have put Chris's connection at a higher priority to get away from data drops. I used to run my remote station with less than 1 Mbs data rates. Now, even with 15 Mbs, I have data being corrupted. Instead of sending K0NM, I have heard K9MT, K0MT, etc. I have reached the point where I am totally frustrated. So, if anyone comes up with an answer, please let me know. I currently have a Motorola SUFboad SB6141 cable modem and a Netgear N900 Dual Band Gigabit router. I seem to have these dropouts between noon and 3pm every day. Anyone else having this problem with Comcast? Anyway I think maybe it is time to upgrade my equipment so looking for recommendations. Allen R.
