We have been in the Katy area since the Eighties and raised our kids here. But we both grew up in Wharton Cty. I have been an Electronics Test, Quality, or Product Quality Engineer most of my 35+ career but after some events, decided to give this a try.... for "fun". Drop by and ask for Don, at the Katy Mills location. I am here some part of most days, but trying to get myself fired so I can spend more time on the air. Getting back into Ham and learning a bunch and more to learn. I have a new mobile rig to setup and install in my truck and a new Icom 7300 MK2 coming , maybe by next month. I have been playing with FT8 a bit on the zBitX I bought at the CRHRC Fest. Just the perfect place for those old boards that will not run the latest Win11 OS. I have the iso for it, but just need more time away from work. I have played with some SDR units and want to see what I can do with SDR++ or SDRangel. The ESP32 projects have slid down the list since the Ham license cleared. But at least I have a list. 😜 We have an Ice Cream and Chocolate store and now thru early January is “all hands on deck” time. So am working every say for 8hrs or longer. I picked up two older working Kenwood TM-7A’s at the Hamfest, along with a zBitx for HF learning. I plan to use the Kenwood unit as a VHF/UHF home base station and backup. The zBitx has been …. Interesting. Been mostly monitoring and learning about FT8 but need to move it and setup a proper antenna. Just temporary run indoor EFHW upstairs for listening. Need to move it outdoors, for sure, and out from under the tin foil hat that is my roofing deck material. 😢. I plan to purchase a new ICOM 7300 Mk2 (so far my fav), at some point. The new mobile for my truck is a Radioditty DG50-B VHF/UHF and will allow APRS. It has a small footprint. It arrived yesterday I am just beginning to learn to program it. So very much in the learning mode with this one. I have several other smaller build projects underway, as well. Old engineer who loves building things and playing with Rpi’s and ESP32’s.
