So, it looks like we need to step back and discuss the issue of what e-mail method. Specifically, do we teach web-mail (e.g. gmail), POP- mail (e.g. Evolution), or both?
I haven't worked with the kids, so I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to teach both methods. If we go with POP-mail, that's the end of this thread. We continue doing what we've always been doing. There will be no need to sign them up for any web-mail account or assign @bworks.org (or any variation) e-mail addresses. If they want a web-mail account, they can get it themselves. If we take a web-mail approach, then the other questions remain: 1) Should we have them sign up for @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, etc. or should ByteWorks hand out e-mail addresses with the domain name @bworks.org to the kids? 2) If we go with @bworks.org, how should we assign e-mail address names? 3) When should we introduce kids to web-mail? My current opinion: - teach the kids web-mail (and POP-mail, if feasible) - have them sign up for @gmail, @yahoo, etc. (that's just because I haven't gotten familiar with the @bworks gmail system) - introduce them to web-mail the first or second class (they can then practice during the rest of the class session.) I don't really have much of an opinion either way. Regards, - Robert [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://stlouis.missouri.org/bworks/ ------------------------ Yahoo!
