I'm going to try this out on my VMWare box soon. Some notable items: >From "What's New" http://www.us.debian.org/releases/etch/i386/release-notes/ch-whats-new.en.html * No reboot during installation - Yes! * Graphical installer available, although this looks kinda complicated to implement, maybe I'm wrong. See section 3.1.1 here: http://www.us.debian.org/releases/etch/i386/release-notes/ch-installing.en.html * Can choose whether to disable root account and use ''sudo'' instead of root account (ala Ubuntu) * Ships with GNOME 2.14[2], KDE 3.5.5a, and Xfce 4.4. * Switches from XFree86 to the 7.1 release of X.Org * OpenOffice.org 2.0.4a and KOffice 1.6 as well as GNUcash 2.0.5, GNUmeric 1.6.3 and Abiword 2.4.6. * Installer can set up encrypted partitions * Much more stuff. Question: Does anyone Can I tell the installer not to download friggin' 500 MB of install packages, or is that just Debian's "niche"?
