For a non-class Saturday, the shop was humming!! There were a lot of volunteers in -- Nate, Dave, and Jenny worked on classroom stuff, advanced students, and follow-ups (they will do their own post, so I don't keep having to say "umm, ask Dave about ..."). Craig, Brad, Keith, and Dan A. worked on making zombies and sorting through triage.
Nestor and Dan D. are working on building our DMZ. They set up the machine they'll be using in the shop, and took it back to their shop for post-install configuration, etc. They will write up and document the new setup. Craig worked on a former student's machine (running Sarge, not Etch). Her mother is ordering AT&T'S DSL service, so we discussed what is involved in getting it set up and configured. Nice was, she had the install CD in the machine's CD-ROM, so I was able to demonstrate to her how to mount the CD (this is Sarge, not Etch, so it doesn't automount), browse the CD, and double-click on the ManualSetup.htm file. We went through the steps involved, and I showed her how to cut and paste URLS and IP addresses into the browser. I'm sure we will hear back if there are problems. Two new potential volunteers stopped by today, they both spent some time talking with folks and observing the general chaos, and hopefully they will come on board. We now have four more computers for sale in the window, all reasonable Win2K machines in the $150 - $200 range. Jess's adult students graduate Wednesday; their computers are stacked up on the table, and there are tested monitors stacked in the corner next to the triage pile. Jess said he would get them set up in time for Wednesday's class. Jenny has access to a pickup truck, so in the next few weeks, we can get a W.I.T.S. run in -- the pile in the shop is getting big, and there are also some bad monitors in the basement. Next week we need to clone 20 hard drives, keep building zombie boxes (we need at least another eight), and then start building graduate machines. And Doc? You didn't miss any snow this time, but it's thinking about it for tomorrow. Have fun in the sun! Fun stuff!! See you all next Saturday. Theresa
