The signal to noise ratio is getting pretty intolerable... I am also
getting unsolicited personal emails and IMs on a daily basis from
people wanting 'help' on a problem they can't even adequately describe
without playing the 20 questions game, or even demonstrate they truly
understand the problem or have made attempts to try to solve it before
asking for help.

I am wondering if we need to start getting stricter on the moderation
and start rejecting some of these questions. I don't want to
discourage genuine people needing help (some young programmers may
just be overwhelmed with a project and need a nudge in the right
direction -- we had one guy last week who IMed me, was very polite and
described his problem and then posted his question with all of the
details and his code), but I also don't want to keep encouraging the
homework shirkers either. It's obvious most new subscribers don't
bother to read the list policies sent to them.
