I think that this is the downside to Open Source in general. There's no one there to police any sort of deadline or release schedule.
For example, back in JANUARY I asked this question: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone know when Cake 1.2 will be officially released for a production? I'm going to be starting development on a new project within a few weeks. One thing that I would like to avoid is having to mess around with the usual hacks for pagination and validation. It seems that Cake 1.2 has solved these problems. However, I haven't seen an expected release date for a stable version of 1.2. Anyone have a guesstimate? Thanks... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nate responded with: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ETA: When it's ready. We don't make predictions or estimates on when things will be released. However, all the Cake sites are based on 1.2, and the trunk release is generally stable. With this dev release, the issue isn't stability, it's the fact that we haven't finalized the API yet, so as long as you're comfortable with having to tweak your code between now and the beta, you should be fine using it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here we are 6 months later and at least from my perspective, I'm still in the same position with Cake 1.2. So all the new commercial/production sites I've built have had to use Cake 1.1 including all the ugly hacks for paging, auth, etc. 6 months later, just to move from 1.1 to 1.2. Its pretty frustrating. Add on the lack of documentation, and it makes me wonder if my donations to the Cake project are just allowing these guys to procrastinate more. If you're willing to accept my donations, you should be equally as ready to accept my criticism. Come on guys, as a "customer", 6 months later is a bit much. Considering there are several guys on the team, I don't understand what the delay is for 1.2 or at least decent documentation for it. Sorry to sound like a jerk but I'm sure all the end users of the Cake framework can relate to the same frustration. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Cake PHP" group.
