This may be the wrong thread but can we just start versioning like this:

1) tag 1.7.0
2) dammit found a bunch of regression bugs
3) tag 1.7.1
4) crap one more bug
5) tag 1.7.2
6) phew, regression passed
7) Release 1.7.2!

What do you think?
