Just a reminder to everyone that when you use recorded music for paid
events, you need to pay an ASCAP/BMI licensing fee. It's true that the
artists get next to nothing of the fees that are paid, but if you are doing
a public event, you can be sure that the ASCAP/BMI lawyers will find you and
send you legal letters asking you to pay. Generally speaking, the fees are
low - I paid about $80-100/yr when I was teaching swing dance - but they
will find you eventually.
