This is part of why I'm skeptical that a contra dance would be original enough to qualify for copyright protection: people keep coming up with the same dances independently. (The level of originality seems similar to that of a chord progression. Both take basic vocabulary elements (figures/chords) and string them into a series to make something coherent.) (Now I want to make a mapping from dance figures to chord numbers and see what dances sound like.) Jeff
