With due respect to Historian Joe from America, the the battle of Dien Bien
Phu occurred between March and May 1954, after Cambodia obtained its
independence from France. Unlike Vietnam that obtained its independence from
France with bloodshed, Cambodia did not shed a single drop of blood. That was
the genius of Norodom Sihanouk.

Actually, the french gave independence to Cambodia because they were having
their arses kicked
by uncle Ho at Dien Bien Phu. Cambodia and Laos were never really french
chasse-gardee.
The idea of fighting the french with wooden gun is purely Sihanouk fantasy
and propaganda, he rather
fought the french with champagne and foie-gras.
Sihanouk did a lot of bad thing in his miserable life, but he does deserve
to be the father of independence,
it just happened under his reign.
