I am planning to publish a book on building a wooden
8X10 from cheap, readily available materials (walnut,
brass and toothed belts from thrift store printers
that no longer work) using simple hand tools (a back
saw, a single hand plane, a square, a flat file, a
utility knife, a small screwdriver and a set of
Chinese calipers). I am documenting this process right
now during construction of my 8X10 field camera. Don't
know how long it will take, but the illustrations and
instructions will be complete as well as simple and
the drawings will be thorough and easy to read. There
is no way I can keep my humor out of it, that much is
certain so it might even be a fun read. Look for this
self published exploration of handyman masochism some
time in September or so. Until then Bradley, the best
thing to do is to start, build, fail, re-design, start
build fail less dramatically and keep on doing this
over and over until one day you behold a creation on
your tripod that would make Laben Deardorff himself
beam with pride. Oh, I will include plans for a very
nice wooden tripod as well, or prerhaps that will be a
seperate book. Anybody else think this book project
would be something they would part with money for or
should I can the idea altogether?
