Well, I wish I could tell you all that the monster lives, but not yet. big
push over the next week though, so I 'll let you know.

Last night I finished the new light seals around the mirror, and mounted the
mirror to the "garage door" that it swings on. New front-surface mirror is
quite a bit thicker and heavier than the original, darn it all. Still, I
hope it won't be a big problem. I'm pretty sure I'll end up re-mounting it
at some point. Angle is changed to a clean 45 degrees. Here's a quick
overview of the design:
1. 1/8" (1/1000 sec) slit will be changed to full-frame to accomodate
x-synch at about 1/30-1/40 of sec. Flash contacts taken off the leading edge
metal stip of the opening, or off seperate contacts ala late speed graphics.
2. Rear of camera is extended up to 4" to accomodate long lenses without
vignetting at the mirror opening. Graphloc back attached for convenience and
to allow calibration of focussing with top ground glass. I plan to include a
removable insert as part of this length to accomodate use with shorter lenses.
3. Original mirror release is removed, mirror spring tension reversed to
hold the mirror DOWN. Cable (R/C model variety) attached to mirror lever and
a hand-grip accuator gently pulls mirror up to where it does the usual
graphlex bit of releasing the curtain shutter.
4. A seperate slider/cable assembly working off an extension on the end of
the mirror lever stops the barrel mt. lens down to a preset aperture, then
opens it back up again as the mirror returns home. This is a push-pull,
tube-within-a-tube thingy also borrowed from R/C models. One of the two
stickiest parts of the design. I want to include an aperture-preview
capability, as well. Still not sure I'm done re-thinking this for the last
time.

Oh. Forget the Graflex pop-up hood. Gone. This will have a level ground
glass about even with the top of the box for the 210 lens, a couple inches
higher for hte 14". The 210 will live in the normal place, the longer ones
will get a custom mount extended 2-3" out in front of where the flip-up lens
door isn't anymore.

Yes, it sounds pretty ugly if your're a lover of mint-condition RB's.

More later.

Thanks for reading..
