Phil, I was in a surplus store recently and they had a bunch of frosted plexiglass screens for some kind of microfische reader. Nice and big, very cheap. You might be able to find something like that where you live. If you got desperate, I could ship you one. Maybe a piece of white plexi would pass enough light. I wonder if something like crinkled foil behind the bulbs would help. How about that stuff they sell at Home Depot, white diffuser panels for overhead lighting. It comes in 2 x 3 foot sheets, I think, and is kind of hard to cut because it tends to break. I found a die grinder works pretty well. Groundglass would probably would work, but you might need more than one to diffuse adequately. Probably a very rough sandblasted glass would work best. Hey, how about taking a disc sander to BOTH sides of a piece of plexiglass? Hope something helps.
