The Camino project has had windows that auto-close for downloads, way long time ago.

When the old download manager auto came to the front people complained about it. Now when it doesn't...

Ok, I'll weigh in with my opinion - I really like it. But what it doesn't do that I think it should is pop to the fron when sometihng new gets added. I click on a like to download something, I like to see a result. If the downloads window is behind things, I can't see it, and I don't know that something's been added. I've downloaded a few things 5-6 times now... :-)
