I know this is a nasty problem for users, but Apache cannot be
expected to "patch" something that isn't a bug. I've spoken to a
number of web server admins and they do not see it as a priority to
change. Further more, for shame, some do not even know *where* in the
configuration file to make the change.

Human nature: You pay attention to things that are problems or
irritations for you. This is *never* an irritation or a problem for an
Apache Administrator and ALWAYS a problem for us end users. The wrong
people end up paying attention!

Maybe we'll just have to start a list of known offenders in this
matter and make that list public. I don' know! How do you get an
Apache administrator to do his/her job. Just remember the old adage
about the squeaky wheel getting the grease. So people, lets squeak!

But before doing that, have a read through /etc/http.conf or if its
apache2 /etc/apache/httpd.con and just see what the administrator is
up against. Is a long file with lots of comments and instructions. I
can see why they are reluctant to look for and change some small thing
like this.

If I remember, I *always* right click or OPTION-click on down loaded
files. Yes, this is a pain for me to specify each time where I want
the file to go *but* in the long run this saves me an annoying crash
and lots of irritation. Choosing a manual download like I described
above almost always makes this problem go away.

Cheers,
David
