One thing that should be considered when using an idler upon a belt is that they are
intended for a belt that travels in only one direction. A fundemental principle in
engineering regarding belt and chain power transmission is that an idler only be
utilized on the slack side of the sheave/belt, sprocket/chain configuration. A
bi-directional belt/sheave configuration would fall into a category making an idler
improper. Of course it all depends on the load but, belts and chains should not be
pulled over idlers under load. Their purpose is to remove slack on the slack side. Not
that this really applies in this case. Just wanted to mention it.

The motor plate is slotted and adjustable but only about 1/4". There are
two belts lengths close to what I need, 134 and 142 toothed. The 134 is
.45" too short and the 142 is .33" to long. I am going to get the 142 and
take up the slack with the idler pulley. I am using HTD 15 mm belts.
