This is a statement I might question.
Well, OK, they MIGHT very well hire "very different
people" - but NEED they?

You also said,
"Now I can do some web GUI stuff. I used to do some web
design work. I was never good, but I used to do some. And
this is where things stand out. Because I know I was
never good . . .".

Yet you also have some opinions on what looks bad or
good, and what works. I daresay you (as am I, and most
of us) are a user of GUI screens. I'll bet that you
know a GREAT DEAL about good GUI design, simply because
you have the experience and the opinions. The rest is
simply learning that aspect of the craft, isn't it?

Is it that you need GUI-specific agilists, or is it that
you need GUI-seasoned agile generalists?

What am I missing?
