Repairs to F-boats are really simple:

1. Remove all loose material including crushed fiberglass and lose
foam.  A disk sander, dremel with drum sander, scissors etc, etc are
all really good for this purpose.  Usually just sand away the loose
material and try and get a tapered edge to seat the new glass.

2. build the damaged region back up using fiberglass roving and
suitable polyester resin.  A really good trick Mike L. told me is to
saturate the fiberglass on a piece of plastic sheet.  Lay another
sheet over the top and squeegy out the excess resin.  Now use the
plastic to lay the fiberglass down and lay flat using a roller or
your fingers.  Allow to dry and harden

3. Sand fair with surrounding material.  Your repair work should
just blend in with the surrounding fiberglass until its not
noticeable.

4. The final process is to paint the repair to match the surrounding
gelcoat.  I use white gelcoat to which I add surfacing agent which
allows it to harden in the presence of air.  If you don't use
surfacing agent then spray over the gelcoat with PVA, a green liquid
which dries hard and can be removed with water without disturbing
the gelcoat underneath which has now hardened in the absence of air.

I use a sprayer to lay the gelcoat but a paintbrush will also work.

5.  Complete final sanding with wet 600 grade sandpaper and steel
wool.  Buff out to a shiny gloss!!!

Be happy the repair is now done :)
