Hello David,

I guess your problem is probably a weekness that occurs to some of
our 31's. I had the same troubles on both forward beam ends. Those
failures are resulting from the - in my opinion - too small
compression pads that cannot handle the efforts over a longer period
of time or when you sail in heavier sees. I decided to enlarge the
compression pads by using the method that is well explained on Ian
Farrier's site, consisting to add a wood bloc covered with epoxy
raisin at the end of the beam. I am not able to express myself
clearly enough in technical English - would not want to have
troubles with the spelling commission - but in the end you do not
need to use teflon compression pads anymore if you make an epoxy
pad. Can look up the references if you want. Ian Farrier should be
able to help you out with this one. I have not had pad problems
since we did this and I feel much more comfortable in rough sees.
Cheers from the Netherlands.
Pierre
