Hey Mike -
I'll chime in with a 27 outlook -
I dont have a synthetic forestay as I'm nervous what damage my hank
on jib might cause chafe-wise. Therefore, there is no mechanism for
changing the forestay length. You cant rake the mast aft more, but
on a 28 you could rake it forward if you loosened the lashings on
the fly - I wouldnt want to do this myself - might be worse than
releasing a tack on a loaded spinnaker - smoked fingers and a mast
over the front. You COULD cant the mast athwartships - I think
Cheekee Monkee and LeiLoe do this. There are photos of the LeiLoe
set up in the photos section of this list. You would want to address
that in the 28 rulebook I should think.
Mine have the pvc sleeve from Eric. As you know the jury is still
out on UV and synthetics, there is some good info on this at the
cordage institute BTW, but if they are covered UV isnt an issue.
Feel free to check mine out next time you're playing around the
boatyard. Push up the sleeve to see the Vectran. Note the condition
of the Amsteel after 11 months of UV. Note how much the shrouds have
crept since new and also how easy the amsteel moves thru the
deadeyes.
Personally, I think the 28's would benefit from synthetics.
Cheers
Barry
