If Charles Hadfield is to be lieved (and I realise that he has his sceptics on this list and elsewhere), the decision to build Foxton and Watford locks narrow-beam was influenced by the Grand Junction company's decision to ban broad beam craft from using Braunston and Blisworth tunnels shortly after their main line opened, so as to avoid the inconvenience of having to operate them with one-way traffic.
