I am a lot happier about the rowers since we hit one amidships. It stopped
rowing in front of us. It just skimmed across the water with no damage at
all. I had rushed to the front of the boat expecting to be pulling people
from the water.

The one time we went along there the lock keeper below warned us to look out
for rowers. We did, one boat insisted on pushing between us and the bank
forcing us into the middle, the one coming the other way didn't look until
the last moment and then told us in impolite language we should be near the
bank, I tried to tell him that a) other rowers had pushed us out from the
bank and b) you don't take propeller driven boats too close to the bank. He
wasn't interested.
The same lock keeper told me on the way back that all rowing boats bear
college arms and if you know them or can photograph them they can be
identified - colleges do have penalties against members using 'ungentlemanly
conduct' and he had reported more than one in the past when they had used
unbecoming language in front of his family.
