Hi Dave I suggest your friend starts off by having a look at two websites:- The Inland Waterways Associations site which give a general overview they are at http://www.waterways.org.uk/ and The Residential Boat Owners' Association pages at http://www.rboa.org.uk/ Then go and talks to people on the cut. We are a friendly bunch.
