I missed that comment earler, but think its a little harsh.
 - For a start, it is my obsevation that the great majority of the
lock gates on the system are in good working order, a few leak a
little, and a a few are in need of a little repair. But generally
there in a very acceptable state.
 - Secondly, there is little damage to be done from gentaly pushing
open a gate against a small head of water. The boat pushes smoothly
and contiuasly against the middle of the gate, and the force exerted
on the gate is nateraly limited to that of the boats thrust
or 'static bollard force'.
 - And thirdly, as i have already said its not something we ever do
as normal practice. On the odd occation that we do do it, im quite
sure that is does far less damage than crashing into the gate a
speed, which is something that seams to happen increasingly often.

I've not come on here to create enemys, ive come here because it was
recomended by a freind as a good place to discuss our shared
interests. Im sorry if any of my posts have caused upset already!
