Oi, you! I may be too busy (and too bunged up with a cold) to share in this
debate, but I'm following it closely.

And you're right. It's been my long-held view that rather than let the
market decide the level of boats on the system, regardless of whether that
destroys what we most value about the canals, BW should take the initiative
in commisioning research to decide how many boats the system can feasibly
support.

Frankly we all know there are bits that aren't worth cruising at certain
times. You'd be better driving around the M25 for relaxation than go up the
Llangollen at the height of the season, for instance. And the Oxford too can
be a pig around bank holidays - moorings at the Folly Napton as late as last
month stacked so far back they were almost meeting the moorings for the
Bridge. And apparently - I've heard the story a couple of times now - 29
boats waiting at the lock outside Venetia Marine on the Shroppie this June,
pretty-well a day's wait.

Mismanaged? Sometimes I feel it's not managed at all.
