Many thanks to all who have replied, and taking one point from the
thread........the recommendation for Dell.........yes, Dell would
have been on my list as all the computers in the Ford empire (I used
to work for Jags) were leased Dells and gave AFAIUI OK performance.
They were changed every three years when their lease ran out. But, a
mate of mine had a really torrid time with a home delivery Dell and
was tearing his hair out trying to get them to fix it and I've
recently read that Dell are in financial trouble. I didn't want to
risk getting stuck with a new PC and then find (maybe) that Dell had
gone bust. I'm thinking of an HP from PC World at the moment, always
having had good service from my other HP products over the years.
Nobody has yet explained the differences (if any) between AMD and
Intel so I assume that they are just as good as one another for
routine computing, just different manufacturers.
