Yes, it's pathetic. Nobody is allowed to make mistakes these days, even if it's caused by their own stupidity. Children are protected from any risk whatsoever. How do human beings learn? By making mistakes and learning not to do the same thing again! I'm all for people not leaving manhole (oh sh!t, personhole<PC???!!!>) covers up, so that people cannot fall down them but taking all risk, however slight, out of life is not going to benefit mankind at all in the long run.
