And the award for the best response yet goes to ... Sue Burchett!
We need to know whether Callum can walk before we teach him how to run -
and I mean that most sincerely.
Have you spent a week on a boat, Callum? Do you know how much a mooring is
going to cost? Do you know if there is one available in your area?
Are you ready to take the huge hit of the depreciation on a new boat -
when you don't even know what to design into that boat? Have you considered
a used boat which may not lose so much value, particularly if you look after
it? You would then be in a better position in a year or two to know exactly
what you want in the boat you build.
I'm glad to see that you have rejected the barge idea and I think you should
also forget the idea of the extra 2 inches - you would just be liable to
get stuck in too many places. I think you should also forget 70 foot in
length - it's just too easy to write off the northern canals just because
they are up north. Having cruised up there, I can tell you that they are a
whole different world from the overcrowded network of much of the south and
midlands.
You wrote to me, as a moderator, asking if a newbie would get advice on this
forum. You now seem to have got a fair range of advice - I'm glad I
didn't try to suggest to you that such advice would be consistent. All you
need to do now is to chose which advice to follow. Best of luck with
hat - let us know what you decide.
And we are ready for the next question.
