I was surprised that it took so long for someone to say, what Sue said!

I  normally add, read the comics and chat to boaters  on the towing path. 
How much cruising will you be doing? or think you will do.  Harsh maybe, 
with the way the cut is filling up with people who own boats (notice I said 
own boats and not boaters), it is getting harder.

Suggest also go to the boat shows etc yes I might be slightly baise but go 
to Little Venice and The National, plus theres Crick etc. Look around the 
boats on show and ask questions.

Think about the different types of boat i.e. Cruiser, Trad and Semi-Trad 
stern, I would have thought a cruiser stern would be better for the 
children, but someone else will came back and say about the delights of a 
Trad.

All things to contemplate?
