I thought that self-steered hire boats were to be classified as pleasure users, and therefore subject to the same rules as private pleasure boats. Whereas freight carrying craft and passenger carrying boats with paid crew (e.g. trip boats, hotel boats) will be able to carry on using red. On that basis I guess that hire boat bases at least will simply convert their existing red diesel facilities to white diesel. If they also operate a trip boat, they will have to decide whether it is cost effective to install a second tank, or just to bear the cost of using white diesel for the trip boat. David Mack
