The moorings on the museum wharf are all private. The old boats are the
pride and joy of the Wooden Canal Boat Society, who are restoring them
in slow motion. If you ask nicely, you might be allowed to breast up
with a community boat breasted up to a liveaboard, but there is a notice
in his window discouraging this. The usual place where boats moor is on
the towpath side just west of the junction. Boats usually moor there
overnight without problem but for a few quid, the marina gives you a
little more peace of mind. The other place that is popular for overnight
mooring is the stretch between the lift bridge and the railway bridge,
on the Peak Forest, just before you get to Portland Basin.

I wish I'd seen this thread a couple of days ago - you could have been
chatting with me as well! I've spent the day at Portland Basin today, on
the trip boat, and popped into the marina this morning.

What did you do to the Ashton Canal yesterday, Andrew? There's a
stoppage there today at Lock 14 due to damaged paddle gear!
