I spoke to the EA about it a couple of days ago. If everything goes to plan 
(and that's a bit of a big 'if') it is still hoped to complete crane 
installation and removal of rail wagons by mid August, after which it will then 
be safe for the EA to inspect and if necessary clear the river for reopening to 
navigation. They are optimistic that they would then be able to get the river 
open in time for boats attending the National to get through at least day or 
two before the event.

EA tell me that between five and ten boats are already using it daily. It seems 
perfectly viable but needs a bit more careful planning to time your journey at 
the right state of the tide. This may well mean making the tidal journey in two 
parts - Salters Lode to Denver and Denver to Brownshill.
