Your mobile charger will change the mains to a low voltage DC power - as 
there is no problem then it's just a conversion to low voltage, rectify to 
DC, and smooth out the pulses. I assume the tootbrush is the type that 
doesn't actaully connect just sits in the holder that's plugged in the 
mains - I think that would need a true sine wave to transmit the power 
properly.

the charger, but it doesn't explain why the charger is then ruined for 
subsequent use ashore?
