Barry The reason that the toothbrush doesn't work any more is that because of all the jaggedy bit (also known as harmonics) cause the coil in the base to get hotter than it is designed to get and it melts. Other units can get hotter on a inverter supply than they would on a household supply but in general this is not a major problem.
